Historic Missouri Wine Country
The area from Defiance to Augusta, Missouri is known as the “Historic Missouri Wine Country,” just minutes outside of St. Louis County. The region was named the country’s first, federally approved American Viticultural Area (AVA), with Napa Valley becoming the second AVA.
The Norton Grape, Missouri’s state grape, has been a part of Missouri’s award-winning wine tradition since the 1873 Vienna World Exposition. One has to try a Norton while in the region because, well, “when in Rome”. . . Other Missouri grapes/wines to be found are: Cynthiana, Chambourcin, Chardonel, Seyval Blanc, Traminette, Vidal Blanc, Vignoles, and other tasty blends.
We’re in prime proximity to three local Defiance vineyards/wineries and one wine garden/tasting room and restaurant. Please be sure to include them in your plans – your palate will thank you!
